Selection Process

  • Step 1 – Online Application: Candidates must apply online through www.joinindianarmy.nic.in
  • Step 2 – Shortlisting: Applications will be shortlisted based on cumulative percentage of marks obtained by candidates upto final semester/year. Cut-off will be applied for each Engineering stream based on vacancy to call up ratio.
  • Step 3 – Allotment of Selection Centre: After shortlisting, centre allotment will be intimated via email. Candidates will select their SSB dates on first come first serve basis.
  • Step 4 – SSB Interview: Two-stage selection procedure conducted at one of the Selection Centres – Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Jalandhar Cantt (Punjab). Duration is maximum five days.
  • Step 5 – Medical Examination: Candidates who get recommended after Stage-2 of SSB will undergo medical examination. Validity of SSB medical examination is 270 days.
  • Step 6 – Merit List: Merit list will be prepared engineering stream/subject wise based on SSB interview marks.
  • Step 7 – Joining Letter: Candidates in merit list who come within stipulated stream-wise vacancies and are medically fit will be issued joining letters for pre-commissioning training at PCTA, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.

Note: Mere qualifying at SSB interview does not confirm final selection. Selection is based on merit, medical fitness and availability of vacancies.

  • Commission Grant: Selected candidates will be granted Short Service Commission on probation in the rank of Lieutenant from the date of commencement of the course
  • Ante Date Seniority: One year ante date seniority from the date of commission will be granted to Engineering Graduates
  • Tenure of Engagement: Officers shall be liable to serve for ten years
  • Option for Release:
    • First option – After 5 years of service (with Army HQ approval)
    • Second option – After 10 years of service
    • Third option – After 14 years of service
  • Option for Permanent Commission: Officers desirous of seeking Permanent Commission may be considered in the 10th year of service based on eligibility and suitability
  • Service Extension: Ten year service tenure may be extendable by further four years subject to eligibility
  • Arms/Services Allocation: Primary Arms/Services are Corps of Engineers, Corps of Signals and Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers. Candidates may get commissioned in other Arms/Services as well based on organizational requirements
  • Training Cost: Entire cost of training at PCTA is at Government expense
  • Cost Recovery: Candidates withdrawn from training academy for personal reasons will be liable to refund cost of training at ₹16,260 per week (as on 2023) or as notified from time to time
  • Promotion Criteria: Promotion to Captain after 2 years, Major after 6 years, Lieutenant Colonel after 13 years of reckonable commissioned service
  • Liability of Service: Officers may be granted commission in any Arm/Service and will be liable for service in any part of the world
  • Marriage Restriction: Candidates must not marry until they complete full training at Officers Training Academy. Marriage during training will result in discharge and recovery of expenditure

How to Apply

  • Step 1: Visit the official website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in
  • Step 2: Click on ‘Officer Entry Apply/Login’ and then click ‘Registration’ (if not already registered)
  • Step 3: Fill the online registration form carefully after reading instructions
  • Step 4: After registration, click on ‘Apply Online’ under Dashboard
  • Step 5: A page ‘Officers Selection – Eligibility’ will open. Click ‘Apply’ shown against Technical Graduate Course
  • Step 6: Fill Application Form with details under various segments – Personal information, Communication details, Education details and details of previous SSB
  • Step 7: Click ‘Save & Continue’ each time before moving to next segment
  • Step 8: After filling all details, review on ‘Summary of your information’ page
  • Step 9: After ascertaining correctness of all details, click on ‘Submit’
  • Step 10: Take out two copies of application having Roll Number, 30 minutes after final closure of online application

Documents Required for SSB Interview

  • One copy of printout of application duly signed and affixed with self-attested photograph
  • Matriculation/Secondary School Examination Certificate or equivalent certificate and Marksheet issued by concerned Board of Education
  • 12th class marksheet and certificate or equivalent certificate/Diploma marksheet and certificate (for Diploma holders)
  • Engineering Degree/Provisional Degree issued by recognized university (Provisional Degree should not be more than six months old at time of joining Academy)
  • Marksheets of all semesters/years
  • Certificate issued by Controller of Examination/Registrar regarding formula for conversion of CGPA/Grades into marks
  • Certificate regarding cumulative percentage of marks upto 6th semester/3rd year (for final year appearing candidates)
  • Certificate from Principal/Head of Institution stating candidate is studying in final year and result will be declared by 01 October 2026 (for final year students)
  • Declaration by final year candidate about submission of degree proof by 01 October 2026
  • Documents related to civil verification
  • All original certificates must be carried for verification (DIGILOCKER certificates not accepted)

Important Notes

  • Applications will only be accepted online – no offline applications
  • Candidates must submit only one online application. Multiple applications will result in cancellation of candidature
  • No changes to details submitted in online application can be made after closure of application
  • CGPA/Grades must be converted into marks as per formulae adopted by concerned University
  • Candidate’s name/Parent’s name/Date of Birth in profile and online application must match Matriculation Certificate exactly
  • Aadhaar number and Matriculation Certificate are mandatory for registration on website
  • Candidates serving in Armed Forces must inform their Commanding Officer and get application countersigned
  • No hard copy needs to be sent to Directorate General of Recruiting
